Three days before the party, the forecast changed.
We'd designed everything around the outdoors — an afternoon tea feel, relaxed and pretty, gathered around the pool of a beautiful private home in Tiburon. Rentals, florals, flow — all of it built for open air. Then April did what April sometimes does it rained, really hard all day.
New rental order. The team came in early, moved furniture, reset the layout so the interior felt intentional and redesigned the florals to match the inside furniture. By the time guests arrived, you wouldn't have known there was ever another plan.
Heartfelt Service
As guests arrived, each one was greeted individually at the door and asked what they'd like to drink. Coffee, tea, champagne — whatever they wanted. This particular moment of service wasn’t in the original plan but it felt right and falls into that category of looking for ways to offer unexpected moments of service—that’s part of the Roux Mission. At a corporate event, guests expect to be served. At someone's home in Marin, full of friends who came to celebrate someone they love — being personally welcomed and asked what you'd like lands completely differently. It makes folks feel like they're the guest, not just an attendee.
Springtime Menu
From our friends at Star Route Farms in Bolinas, we pulled Tokyo turnips, beets, and carrots — roasted individually (they all cook differently) so the sweetness inherent in all of them shined through. The baby marble potatoes came from Zuckerman’s along with the asparagus which was featured on our “over the top” veggie sandwich. A sandwich is well just a sandwich unless you are thinking about all the components and how they work together between two pieces of bread. One guest said she had never had one as good as ours: goat cheese, sundried tomatoes, asparagus spears, house pickled onions and cucumbers. Janelle, our pastry chef, brought her morning glory muffins and a delicious vanilla cake layered with whipped cream and first of the season strawberries.

After the party, our host wrote to us: "Everyone loved you and your staff. It was wonderful working with you and we couldn't have been happier. Each item on the menu was individually raved about."
