Sustainable Floral Design

Flowers have always been an exquisite way to bring natural beauty and a touch of elegance into our lives. From weddings to special occasions, floral arrangements have a way of captivating our senses and creating a memorable atmosphere. However, as we become increasingly aware of the importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility, it is essential to explore ways to enjoy floral design without compromising the well-being of our planet. We are always looking for innovative approaches that celebrate nature's splendor while minimizing our ecological footprint.

Emphasizing Locally Sourced Flowers:

One of the pillars of sustainable floral design is sourcing flowers locally. By reducing the distance traveled from farm to vase, we can significantly minimize the carbon footprint associated with floral arrangements. Supporting local flower farms not only promotes regional biodiversity but also ensures that the blooms are fresh and long-lasting, thus enhancing the overall quality of the arrangement .Front Porch Farms in Sonoma is one of our go-to farms for beautiful organic blossoms. This design is created entirely from garden roses and a few peach peonies. Their approach to growing flowers is truly inspiring from a floral design perspective. Throughout the season they showcase 60 different varieties of flowers and greenery.

Choosing Organic and Chemical-Free Flowers:

Conventional flower farming often involves the excessive use of pesticides, which can harm both human health and the environment. Opting for organic and chemical-free flowers is a crucial step towards sustainable floral design. These blooms are grown using natural and environmentally friendly practices, free from harmful chemicals, and support the health of the soil and ecosystems they are grown in.

Thoughtful Floral Selection:

Another aspect of sustainable floral design is the careful selection of flowers based on their availability and seasonality. Choosing flowers that are in-season reduces the need for energy-intensive greenhouse production or long-distance transportation. Embracing the beauty of seasonal blooms not only supports local farmers but also ensures that the floral design reflects the natural rhythms of the surrounding environment.

Eco-Friendly Floral Arrangement Techniques:

In addition to the choice of flowers, the techniques used in floral arrangement can contribute to sustainability. Green floral foam is not sustainable. We utilize sustainable mechanics like chicken wire, wool blocks, Oshun floral packs and Holly pillows to design our arrangements. We re-use containers and try to source them from estates sales and consignment stores.

Repurposing and Composting:

What happens to the flowers at the end of the event is very important. We close the loop as much a possible by re-gifting our arrangements, repackaging for clients and delivering them to local communities. Ultimately we compost any left over flowers.

Sustainable floral design allows us to celebrate nature's beauty while fostering a more environmentally conscious approach. By supporting local flower farms, choosing organic and seasonal blooms, incorporating dried elements, embracing eco-friendly techniques, and practicing responsible aftercare, we can create stunning floral arrangements that leave a positive impact on both our events and the planet. When you hire us to contribute beautiful flowers to your wedding or event you can be confident that we are thinking about our environmental impact.
